The Prime Video series of ‘Fallout’ is estimated to have cost over 100 million dollars. This post-apocalyptic drama is based on the legendary video game saga created by Interplay Entertainment in the late 20th century. Jonathan Nolan, who co-created the TV series with Lisa Joy, directs at least the pilot episode, bringing to life the vision of renowned showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) and Graham Wagner (Portlandia). Todd Howard serves as the executive producer, making ‘Fallout’ one of 2024’s most anticipated premieres.
Los Angeles, the starting point of the ‘Fallout’ TV series
Set in Los Angeles over two centuries after the Great War of 2077, which devastated the planet in just a few hours, the world of ‘Fallout’ diverges from our current reality in the mid-20th century. This deviation is marked by technological advancements and nuclear weaponry, setting a different course for the future. The United States and China emerge as superpowers amid a global resource shortage, pushing the world to the brink of collapse and leading to the tragic events of the late 21st century.
When did the filming of ‘Fallout’, the Prime Video series, begin?
The first season’s filming commenced on July 5, 2022, in New Jersey, New York, and Utah. Its release is scheduled for almost two years later, on April 12, 2024.
The survivors of the Great War took refuge in radiation bunkers known as ‘Vaults’, designed to preserve humanity in the event of nuclear annihilation. The narrative begins with Lucy (Ella Purnell), a young descendant of the original “Vault Dwellers”. Lucy is compelled to leave behind the only life she has known to venture into the dangerous and hostile Wasteland of a devastated Los Angeles, in search of a valuable water chip.
“Lucy is charming, brave, strong… and then you see her confronting the reality that maybe the supposedly virtuous things she grew up with aren’t necessarily so virtuous,” Nolan explained to Vanity Fair. The episodes will feature icons from the saga, like the ever-smiling Vault Boy, appearing in numerous drawings and stamps. Despite the hostile environment and the post-apocalyptic setting, humor remains a hallmark of the franchise, as in the games.
