If you haven’t watched ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’, be advised of spoilers ahead. However, if curiosity gets the better of you, or you need a refresher on what happened in ‘Love Triangle’, the final episode of season two, read on.
The Final Episode of ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ on Prime Video
In the final episode, Belly at last makes her choice between the Fisher brothers. Following the loss of Susannah, the boys’ mother, young Conklin grapples with her future, realizing her love for Conrad was an illusion fading away, while he senses a change in her. Jeremiah, her close friend whom she has disappointed once, gains prominence in her heart.
Jeremiah, cautious after their past, confesses to Belly, “If I fall for you again, I don’t think I can bear it if you change your mind like last time,” following her plea for a second chance.
This conversation precedes Belly’s kiss with Jeremiah, a moment Conrad witnesses firsthand. Jeremiah urges Belly to follow Conrad, who flees after witnessing their romantic scene. Conrad returns, displaying aggression and jealousy, hurling accusations at both.
The trio’s return journey is interrupted by flood warnings, forcing them to share the last available room at a roadside hotel. This tense situation could clarify or complicate their love triangle.
As Belly sleeps in bed, Conrad and Jeremiah rest on the floor, each at her side. Jeremiah doubts Conrad’s ability to move past the recent events and wishes for Belly to end things with his brother before they start dating. Meanwhile, Conrad, regretting his actions, admits to Belly his lingering feelings.
“I still love you. Of course, I do,” he confesses. Before she can respond, he adds, “You don’t have to say anything. I just wanted you to know that.” The next day, Belly wakes to find Jeremiah gone, only to reappear with breakfast for her, leading to a kiss to the tune of Beyoncé.
Later, Conrad and Belly share a moment alone, underscored by Taylor Swift’s ‘Exile’. Conrad tells Belly they are just friends and returns the infinity necklace he gave her. As Conrad walks away, Belly’s inner monologue reveals her moving on, telling her former love, “I evict you from my heart.”
Conrad leaves his car for Jeremiah to drive Belly home, asking him to take care of her, then breaks down in tears but looks forward to his future at Stanford. Jeremiah takes Belly to volleyball camp, ready to fight for a place on the team and their (new) love.
The finale also brings good news for Steven and Taylor, the beach house, and the new couple who will embark on future adventures. Unfortunately for fans of the new couple, Jenny Han’s books paint a less promising future. In the third book, ‘We’ll Always Have Summer’, Conrad and Belly marry after years of separation, during which she nearly wed Jeremiah.
