If you haven’t seen ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’, we recommend not reading this article further, especially as we delve into the likely plot of the third, and possibly last, season of the Prime Video series.

The adaptation of Jenny Han’s books has been a breath of fresh air for the platform, attracting a younger audience and standing out from other original series like ‘Reacher’, ‘The Boys’, or ‘The Terminal List’.

The series was renewed for a third season on August 3, and the main cast is expected to return. We will see Lola Tung (Belly), Christopher Briney (Conrad), Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah), Sean Kaufman (Steven), Rain Spencer (Taylor), and Jackie Chung (Laurel) in this third act based on ‘We’ll Always Have Summer’, the final novel in Jenny Han’s trilogy.

Plot Development in Jenny Han’s Third Novel

In the book, Belly and Jeremiah have been together for two years and appear happy. While Conrad is away, the couple attends Finch University. However, their idyllic relationship is not the same as it was two years ago.

The couple takes a break, during which Jeremiah becomes intimate with a girl named Lacie Barone. Hearing the rumor, Belly is upset, and Jeremiah proposes marriage to calm the waters, amidst complicated encounters between Conrad and Belly at Cousins Beach house.

Despite the tension, Belly and Conrad, who never stopped loving her, feel something stirring. After a fight between the brothers, the wedding is called off, and Belly decides to study in Spain. Her mother, who thought the marriage premature, begins to understand her daughter’s feelings.

While Jeremiah and Belly communicate online, Conrad takes a more romantic approach, sending her old-fashioned love letters. Susannah, Conrad and Jeremiah’s deceased mother, also knew the truth about her sons and Belly. Love rekindles between Conrad and Belly, and they eventually marry after a year of dating.

The Two-Year Time Jump: A Possible Gap for New Storylines in TSITP

This two-year leap could also provide an opportunity for the series to develop a story during this time gap not described in the novels. However, the Prime Video adaptation has remained faithful to the author’s narrative and even had her approval, making it unlikely to see a major divergence from the plot of the books.
