If you’re talking about Kyle MacLachlan, you’ll find you have to mention one of last century’s most popular TV series: ‘Twin Peaks.’
The now veteran actor became an emblem of the cult nineties series for his role as Dale Cooper, an FBI agent sent to investigate the murder of student Laura Palmer.
The early days of Kyle Merritt MacLachlan
Born in Yakima, Washington, in 1959, MacLachlan grew up in a quiet town that nurtured his primary passion: acting. After studying piano and singing, his interest in acting was sparked by his mother’s involvement as the director of a youth theater group.
During high school, he performed in various musicals. His significant leap came with studying Drama at the University of Washington. Under the tutelage of great theater masters, Kyle Merritt MacLachlan, later known as Kyle MacLachlan to highlight his Scottish ancestry, began making his mark in the acting world.
After portraying Hamlet, his stature, voice, and acting style were key to his success in Hollywood. And there was David Lynch. Starting with minor roles, such as in ‘The Changeling’ (1980), his first lead role came with ‘Dune’ in the same year, which was initially a failure.
‘Bue Velvet’ (1986), Lynch’s next film, breathed life back into our beloved actor’s career. And then came their most famous collaboration: ‘Twin Peaks.’
The Success of ‘Twin Peaks’
The two-season series became (and remains) a timeless hit, revolving around the murder of the young, perfect Laura Palmer. It even spawned a third season in 2017, though we know all about how some sequels go…
This series, now available on SkyShowtime, brought MacLachlan widespread acclaim. From there, he took on smaller roles until finding renewed success in the new millennium with two competing series: ‘Sex in the City’ and ‘Desperate Housewives.’
Now, after venturing into the wine business and taking on less memorable roles, Kyle returns to play Lucy’s father in ‘Fallout,’ the Prime Video series set to make a splash in 2024.
His role as Supervisor Hank will be central to the storyline of this adaptation, based on the legendary games from the nineties and the new millennium.
