Before proceeding with this article, be warned: it contains major spoilers. ‘Yellowjackets’ is a series that’s not for the faint of heart, bearing similarities to the recently premiered and wildly successful Netflix film ‘The Snow Society.’ Here, we’ll break down the events at the end of Season 2 and ponder what might unfold in Season 3.

The conclusion of ‘Storyteller,’ the Season 2 Finale of ‘Yellowjackets’

Events from the past in ‘Yellowjackets’

The ninth and final episode, ‘Storyteller,’ plunges us into a frostbitten past. The team arrives at camp with the frozen corpse of Javi, and Kevin is devastated as Natalie explains what happened. But the surprises don’t end there. Lottie, the group’s leader, faces the consequences of her decisions. It was she who led the team to the ritual and their connection with the wild. Now, they must live with the choices they’ve made.

Misty, ever the voice of reason, points out that Lottie is to blame. Yet, she also realizes that it’s pointless to dwell on blame and let Javi’s death be in vain. Nature demands its tribute, and Kevin comes to accept this grim reality, taking a ceremonial bite of his brother’s heart before it’s cooked. Misty persuades Lottie to partake, shouldering the guilt of leading the group to murder.

Lottie, now an outcast among her own, watches as each team member kneels before the newly crowned Horned Queen, Natalie. Young Natalie, portrayed by Sophie Thatcher, is hailed as the leader, her bond with the wild set to guide them as they face the aftermath of their actions. As the night unfolds, Coach Ben sets the cabin ablaze, forcing the group to flee. They’re alive, yes, but now, in the dead of winter, they’re without shelter.

Events from the Present in ‘Yellowjackets’

In the present, the women face a harrowing choice: to continue Lottie’s ritual and select someone for sacrifice. In secret, they plan to extend the ritual as long as possible and call in a crisis team to commit Lottie to a psychiatric facility.

In this tense scenario, Jeff and Callie arrive at the complex, closely followed by Kevyn and Matt. Walter also appears, intent on aiding Misty. Their master plan involves poisoning Kevyn and, with Jeff’s help, framing him in a conspiracy to end Matt’s investigation into Adam Martin.

During the ritual, Shauna draws the Queen of Hearts card, but Taissa and Van reveal they’ve canceled the crisis team for Lottie. Nevertheless, Shauna dashes through the woods in a frantic hunt.

In a shocking twist, Callie emerges and shoots Lottie in the shoulder to protect her mother. But the tragedy doesn’t end there. When Lisa arrives with a shotgun demanding answers, Misty tries to inject her with a lethal solution. Natalie heroically steps in to save Lisa, but the mistakenly injected poison leads to her death in Misty’s arms. Paramedics take Lottie away, who whispers that “it” is pleased with her sacrifice and will reward them.

What Can We Expect from Season 3?

The announcement of a third season is thrilling but raises more questions. How will Natalie’s leadership evolve? What secrets does the forest hide? And most importantly, what will be the repercussions of the adult Natalie’s (played by Juliette Lewis) accidental death at the hands of Misty (Christina Ricci)?
